Kandy's K.M. Karunaratne will captain Lankan contingent

MASTERS ATHLETICS: K. M. Karunaratne of Kandy District will lead the Sri Lanka contingent of athletes as the Asian Masters Athletic Championship to be held in Kuala Lumpur National Stadium, Malaysia from 6th to 12th December, 2010.

Popularly known as 'Karu' among friends, he will participate in 100, 200, 400 metre races and 300 metre hurdles in the Under 70 age category. Altogether 242 athletes (171 Men & 71 women) the highest team to take part in this Asian Masters Athletic Meet.

From Kandy District 31 Men and 10 women will participate and according to the Secretary of the Central Province Athletic Association, Cyril Perera, the Kandy athletes will have a coaching camp this month and there is a meeting on the 9th of September at the Peradeniya Tutorial Institution to select the dates and the venue to have the coaching camp for Masters Athletes.

In addition all those who are selected to represent Sri Lanka at the Asian Masters Athletic Meet, are requested to be present at the Torrington Square, Colombo, Athletic Headquarters for a meeting to be commenced at 10.00 a.m. on the 19th of September 2010 to finalise the arrangements.
