Sharaf Mashood - to promote junior soccer in Kandy


Sharaf Mashood

FOOTBALL: Sharaf Mashood, son of the famous soccer promoter from the hill capital the late M. S. M. Mashood, now domiciled in New Castle England will come over to Kandy later this year and help to promote junior soccer in the hill capital.

Late M. S. M. Mashood was a fine soccerite and later took to soccer referring and was a member of the Gampola Football League and later the Honorary Treasurer of the Kandy Association Football League. He was also one of the pioneers of Veteran's Soccer in Kandy before he died. Sharaf Mashood, now a resident of New Castle in England is keen to continue the good work done by his late father.

Initially, he has plans to form an under 14 soccer team for the underprivileged children by providing jerseys, boots, and other equipment before progressing to senior level. This team will be coached by former district coach S. A. Weerasinghe. Sharaf Mashood also has plans to conduct a under 14 soccer tournament for schoolchildren and also an over-40 veterans soccer tournament which will be sponsored by him.

Sharaf Mashood who migrated to England many years ago, is a member of the prestigious NewCastle Club, and his efforts to boost soccer in Kandy should have the desired results.
