Peterites emerge champions of under 17 Division Two

St. Peter's emerged champions at the Lemonade Trophy under 17 Division Two tournament when they beat St. John's College, Nugegoda by six wickets in the final played at Braybrooke Place yesterday. Chenura Ubeysekara (St. Peter's College) was adjudged man of the final.













 


Law-Medical cricket match Sept. 11

CRICKET: The annual Law-Medical cricket encounter will be played on Saturday, September 11 at the P. Saravanamuttu Stadium.

This year's cricket match is organised by the Bar Association of Sri Lanka and the winners will be awarded with the new challenge trophy presented by Manilal Fernando.

The Lawyers under the captaincy of Binara Asabha Gunasekera have won this match for the past two years.

Besides the match for the men, there will also be the Law-Medical Ladies Six-a-Side softball cricket match.


No changes in voting

RUGBY: There were no changes in the top position with Nigel Ratwatte of CR&FC and Kandy SC still in the lead at the Caltex/Sunday Observer Most Popular Rugger Player and Most Popular Rugger Club competition at the end of count number 16.

In the team competition, Kandy SC and CR&FC are having a close tussle for the top berth.

Examination for Technical Officers

ATHLETICS: The Athletic Association of Sri Lanka will conduct an examination for Technical Officials (grade 4) at centres in Colombo, Badulla. Jaffna, Vavuniya, Kandy, Matara and Polonnaruwa on January 8 next year.

Application forms for candidates to sit the examination will be available on request at AA Headquarters. Applications close on December 8 with Mr. G.L.S. Perera, Vice-President (Technical), Athletic Association of Sri Lanka, No. 33, Torrington Avenue, Colombo 07.


'Bawa' Weerasinghe - funeral today

'Bawa' Weerasinghe, the former Master-in-Charge of Rugger at Royal College, Colombo 7, passed away. His remains are at the Jayaratne Funeral Parlour, Borella. The funeral is at Kanatte today, Sept 5.
