The world

People were so excited
From what they heard
A mother
Has robbed
A child's life
By pulling him into
deep river
Which won't have any pity
The people should know
About
The world
It does not belong to
the rich
or to the poor
It belongs to everyone
Who dreams about themselves
They have to think whether
They're going to reach?
Heaven or
Hell

- K. D. A. Aruna Pradeep

Leaving Heaven

See how time flies
God please stop it for a while
For I have something to ask
From the bottom of my heart

Are you sure you are strong enough
To leave your second mother beloved?
Tears say no, heart says can't
Mother, you our childhood's immortal art

Dear mother Anuula, listen please
Our love for you is above the crease
For you we always cheer loud
To be Annulians we are always proud

Truth is there for us to face
Time has come to leave your place
With gratitude and this small hope
Dear mother Anula may you live long!

- Jithari

Veda Medura

Pattiwila, a hamlet unknown to many I say;
Draws crowds: men women and children today,
Where are they led? - and why?
On the above title cast your eye.
Away from the hustle and bustle of the town
Amidst trees and bushes and creepers hanging down
Silence reigns supreme not a sound
A healing cots in - Samanalagiri Veda Medura abound
A simple man of great ability a doctor such
Resides there: Engrossed in his work so much.
Broken, Fractured, limbs. snake-bites handles he
None can hold a candle to him you see.
A man of few words: In deep thought
Attends to his patients as a doctor aught.
In truthfulness and honesty his effiency rest
To patients that throng his door, does his best
To make money is not his aim
This proves the charges he claim
His talent a gift that money cannot buy
A prize rendered from heaven high.
God gives talents to be used by him
Should then HIS work for lack of zeal decline?
His kingdom first, our light must not go dim
Through faithful servants may his glory shine"

- Norma Perera

'Mourning'

Mourning over the dead
Commemorating the dead
Death anniversaries
Offering Masses for the dead
Alms-giving for the dead
Keeping their memories anew
Remembering their goodness all
Through life

There are ways and causes of death
Some people have natural deaths....
Some die in accidents happening in nature
Some die in accidents of vehicles
And others by suicide and murder
And yet others die in their old age

Infants, children, youth, adults and the old!!
Nothing makes a difference in death
Death is unbearable, unavoidable!!
Rather than mourning over the dead,
Let us hope.....
They are with our loving Lord in Heaven!!!
