Lankaputhra third in Krushi Navodaya scheme
Lankaputhra Development Bank was ranked third in implementing the
Kurshi Navodaya Loan Scheme, based on disbursements made by the
Hanbantota branch of the Bank. A large number of recipients have
obtained loans under this scheme through the Lankaputhra Development
Bank.
Lankaputhra Development Bank operates through seven branches. Plans
are afoot to expand the branch network to cover Moneragala as well as
the North.
The Kurshi Navodaya Loan scheme introduced by the Central Bank of Sri
Lanka seeks to disburse low interest loans through 14 local state and
private sector banks. Lankaputhra Development Bank acts as the principal
participatory financial institution. The scheme introduced by the
Central Bank in 2007 makes available the capital to raise income avenues
of farmers engaged in diverse economic pursuits in the agricultural
sector and those engaged in self employment ventures based on
agriculture.
