Hat-trick of wins for Capt. Nihal Keppetipola

GOLF: Nuwara Eliya Golf Club came alive last week and Mariner Captain, Captain Nihal Keppitipola truly made it a memorable show by capturing three memorable awards.

The Presidents Cup, Captains Cup and A.R. Aitkin Cup all became the prized possessions of Captain Keppitipola. In the Presidents Cup Nihal Keppetipola won over Joe Perera, then the Captains Cup was won by Keppetipola over Ken de Alwis and Keppetipola was the winner again in the A. R. Aitkin Cup.

Longest drive as September 10 was by Chandana de Silva, while the Nearest to the Pin was M. Balendran. Then on September 11, the Longest drive was Shiran de Soysa while the Nearest to Pin was once again M. Balendran.

It was a good show put out by the officials of Nuwara Eliya Golf Club and all the participants had a good time. The course was in fine condition and everything went off well. The organising committee headed by President Umesh de Silva helped by Sai Kasturiratne, Stafan de Run and Lalindra Fernando did a fine job with the arrangements.

The main sponsors of the tournaments were: Baurs Optics of A. Baur and Company Pvt. Limited, HP Invent and A-Z Solutions.

Up coming events at the Nuwara Eliya Club are: The 2010 Nuwara Eliya Club Championship from October 22 to 24. The events will be: Championship Event (Handicap 0-12 (Match Play), Dilver Division (Handicap 13-20 (Stroke Play) and Brinze Division - Handicap 21-28 (Stroke Play), Bronze Division (Handicap 21-28 (Stroke Play) and Seniors - Over 55 years.

There will also be the Ladies Events - Handicap 0-20 (Stroke Play) and the Bronze Division - Handicap 21-36 (stroke play).

Entries will be accepted at Royal Colombo Golf Club and Victoria Golf Club. Entries close on October 17 at 5 p.m.
