CPM Annual Conference on Oct.11
The Certified Professional Managers' annual conference themed 'The
Role of Business in Transforming the Economy' will be held on October 11
at the Taj Samudra.
The chief guest Prof. G.L. Peiris will speak on 'The Government's
role in transforming the economy'.
The Keynote Address would be given by Central Bank Governor Ajith
Nivard Cabraal who will speak on 'Financial Sector's role in
transforming the Economy'.
The conference will also discuss 'Strategies and Collaborative Future
Thinking' addressed by President Director, Amplios Consultants Singapore
Wilson Fyffe and Chairman Management Frontiers (Pvt) Ltd. Prashantha
Abeykoon.
Session two would cover the business sector. Topics include 'the Role
of Banking Sector in Transforming Business' - Chairman, Bank of Ceylon,
Dr. Gamini Wickramasinghe 'Managing for Results and Double Digit Growth'
-Managing Director Chemanex Plc, Preethi Jayawardena and 'Corporate
Social Responsibility-Adapting business model to changing community
needs' - Managing Director, Cargills (Ceylon) Plc, Ranjith Page.
Session three would be on Sri Lankan Tourism - The New Wave.
It is expected that the biggest beneficiary after the end of the
30-year-old war would be the tourist industry.
This would result in the generation of new investments in the South,
North and East to provide for the increase in tourist arrivals in Sri
Lanka and areas hitherto affected by the war.
'The Government's Role in Tourism' - Director General,Sri Lanka
Tourism Development Authority, S. Kalaiselvam and 'the Private Sector's
Role - Chairman Jetwing Ltd. and Chairman PATA, Hiran Cooray.
A panel discussion will follow. Panellists include Deputy Chairman
John Keells Ajith Gunawardena, Managing Director Aitken Spence Hotels
Malin Hapugoda, Group Director Hemas Holdings and Chairman of Serendib
Hotels, Abbas Esufally, Deputy Director (Air Transport & Legal Affairs)
- Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka Rahan Wanniappa and Deputy
Director General BOI A.M.C. Kulasekera.
The air transport sector would be handled by Rehan Wanniappa and
'Incentives for the tourist industry' by A.M.C. Kulasekara. This session
will be moderated by Editor Business Times, the Sunday Times, Feizel
Samath.
Session Four will be on University Education and this will cover 'New
vision for University Education' by Secretary Ministry of Higher
Education, Dr. Sunil Jayantha Navaratna, 'The Malaysian Experience with
Foreign Universities', 'The Indian Higher Education System and
University Colleges' by Second Secretary Education - Indian High
Commission in Sri Lanka, Dinesh Udeniya.
It will be followed by a panel discussion by, CEO - APIIT Sri Lanka,
Dr Athula Pitigal-Arachchi, Managing Director - Amana Investments Ltd.
Faizal Salieh and Managing Director SLIIT, Prof Lalith Gamage.
