Indoor cricketers for World Cup
The Ceylon Indoor Cricket Association (CICA) will field a 15-member
Masters team to represent Sri Lanka at the forthcoming 'World Masters
Series' to be held in the Gold Coast, Brisbane Australia from 10 to 16
October, 2010.
This prestigious event will be hosted by Cricket Australia for the
World Indoor Cricket Federation (WICF) and teams from Australia, New
Zealand, South Africa, England, Wales and Sri Lanka will be competing
for the Cup. Australia is the reigning champs.
The CICA through a selection process have picked a strong team and
have hopes of reaching the final stage.
The team is captained by former Anandian Sanjaya Attanayake and his
deputy will be the dashing all rounder Duncan Arnolda, a former
Sylvestrian. This is the fourth time Sri Lanka will be taking part in a
Masters World Cup since 2003.
Roshan Weerasinghe, a former National Player will be Coach cum
player.
The team will be managed by the much experienced Hiran de Mel who is
also the Head of Technical CICA and an International Umpire.
The other players to watch in this competition are Malik Ahamadeen,
Thiran Thenabadu, Lasantha Perera, Chamika Srimal, Asitha Costa,
Priyantha Samaradiwakara and Susantha de Mel. The president CICA, the
Minister Salinda Dissanayake said that "He is hopeful that this team
will do Sri Lanka proud at this year's World Cup."
