'Youth Ministry to reap optimum results'

The objective of the Ministry of Youth Affairs is to provide a better future for Sri Lankan youth who became prisoners of the university-centred educational system in the country introduced by the capitalist class, said Youth Affairs Minister Dullas Alahapperuma.

Students who fail at the GCE O/level and A/level examinations could even obtain degrees through the UNIVOTEC university, Ratmalana, he said.

The Puttalam-Nagavilluwa Vocational Training College under the Sri Lanka Vocational Training Authority, was renovated recently at a cost of Rs. 61 million with Indian government assistance. The Minister told the opening ceremony that the Indian government had provided over Rs. 1,000 million to improve the quality of technical education in Sri Lanka. India supported Sri Lanka throughout history, especially in the national struggle for independence and in the eradication of terrorism, he said. The unwholesome education system has been the root cause for most of the problems associated with the national economy, unemployment and social inequalities, he said.

He said that the Youth Affairs Ministry is committed to reap the maximum results under the technical education development program introduced by the government.
