Mega health projects in North

Mega development projects will be implemented at a cost of 19 million
US dollars (Rs. 1900 million) to uplift the health sector in the
Northern Province, the Northern Province Governor Major General G.A.
Chandrasiri said.
Plans are afoot to appoint 1250 rural health assistants to serve in
the province covering five districts. According to the Governor, US
dollars 19 million have been allocated through GFATM which fights AIDS,
Malaria and Tuberculosis (TB),These funds will mainly be spent on five
important projects, Northern Province Health Ministry Secretary, V.
Ravindhran said.
While setting up 25 hospitals in the province, needed equipment will
be provided to the hospitals and improving infrastructure facilities.
Attention will be paid towards filling the vacancies in the health
sector. Meanwhile eight MOH offices will be set up in the province,
while constructing 12 hostels, five malaria eradication units and two
cardiology units in the province. Eight cab vehicles will also be
provided to the hospitals.
Out of the 1250 rural health assistants, 570 will be appointed in
November. One hundred and seventy Midwives and 50 Public Health
Inspectors are to be appointed.
