Thomians take major honours

CRICKET: Leg spinner Madushan Ravichandrakumar took a matchbag of ten wickets as S. Thomas' College grabbed major honours in their inter school under 19 cricket tournament match against Thurstan College which ended in a draw at Mount Lavinia yesterday.

Ravichandrakumar snapped up four wickets for 46 following his six wicket haul in the first innings after S. Thomas' College had snatched a close first innings lead thanks to a fighting half century from Nuwan Kavinda.

Thurstan: 197 and 156 for 5 (S. Navaratne 30, P. Arthavindu 59, T. Madurapperuma 31, M. Ravichandrakumar 4 for 46)

S. Thomas: 204 (N. Kavinda 61, C. Pathirana 34, R. Gunaratne 23, P. Arthavindu 4 for 43, S. Dias 4 for 48)

Rain deprives Wesley win

Wesley College ran out of time and overs as they fell short by just three wickets from pulling off an outright victory in their rain hit inter school under 19 cricket tournament match against Sri Jayawardenapura MV which ended in a draw at Campbell Park yesterday.

Sri Jayawardenapura MV finished on 132 for 7 in their second attempt after having been bowled out for 85 runs and forced to follow on. Wesley's two opening bowlers Daniel Barthomuesz and Sadeem Thawfeeq excelled in the first innings while sharing nine wickets between them.

Wesley: 210

Low scoring draw

Bowlers called the tune as St. Joseph's College and D. S. Senanayake College figured a low scoring draw in their rain hit inter school under 19 cricket tournament match which concluded at Wijerama Mawatha yesterday.

After St. Joseph's College were bundled out for 120 runs in their first innings D. S. Senanayake College were struggling at 106 for 9 in reply with the two opening bowlers Dinal Dhambarage and Chaturanga Kumara capturing three wickets each.

St. Joseph's: 120

D. S. Senanayake: 106 for 9 (B. Fernando 22, D. Dhambarage 3 for 27, C. Kumara 3 for 19)

Mahanama settles for a draw

Mahanama MV fought back well through their batsmen to force a draw to their inter school under 19 cricket tournament match against Zahira College which ended at Maradana yesterday.

Mahanama reached a healthy 189 for 5 in their first innings after Zahira College had earlier amassed a massive 306 for 5 having resumed from their overnight score of 177 for 3.
