Blind Cricket: Ranaviru Sevana Sports Club beat Subhagya
School for the Deaf and Blind, Moneragala by 2 wickets in a thrilling
encounter to win the Dilmah Challenge Trophy. Ranaviru Sevana retained
the Dilmah Challenge Trophy for the third time.Subhagya School, who won
the toss and batted first made 226 in 26 overs after being 127 for one
wicket.
They lost their last seven wickets for 33 runs. Ranaviru Sevana who
had to make 227 runs for the win, made the required runs - 227 for 8
wickets after 199 for 5 wickets and finally 224 for 8 wickets. Earlier
Nuwanga Tharanga (70) and Suranga Sampath (58) made quick runs for
Subhagya School, Moneragala to make 226 runs. Then Ranaviru Sevana’s
skipper Ruwan made 72 and of the latter batsmen Saman Kumara (34) and
Jayaratne (28) took Ranaviru Sevana close to the target. Finally it was
an exciting finish with Ranaviru Sevana making 227 for 8 wickets.
The winners Ranaviru Sevana received a cash award of Rs. 15,000 and
Subhagya School received
Rs. 7,500. The other awards: Nuwan Tharanga of Subhagya (Man of the
series - totally blind), Sulochana Gunawardena of Senehasa (Man of the
match-B2) and Chandana Deshapriya (Subhagya partially sighted), Man of
