Awards for Piramal Glass from CNCI , NCE

Piramal Glass Ceylon Ltd received a Gold award at the 18th National Chamber of Exporters Awards in the Extra Large category, Industry sector. The company also bagged the Merit Award at the 9th CNCI Achiever Awards conducted by the Ceylon National Chamber of Industries (CNCI). Piramal Glass has 11 manufacturing plants in India, Sri Lanka and the USA, as well as several marketing offices worldwide.


Airline Academy awards ceremony

ICICI Bank In Singapore

NDB Bank’s savings drive

As part of its Ithiri karamu, api hedemu, rata hadamu savings drive, the NDB Bank recently reached out to the public at the Fort, Bambalapitiya and Kollupitiya railway stations. Bank representatives were seen distributing promotional material to extend the message of good saving habits.


LG, Abans host trade conference in Sri Lanka

LGEIL - LG Electronics’ largest manufacturing plant in South East Asia held its annual Trade Partners Conference in Sri Lanka recently with delegates from 70 countries attending. Credit for this prestigious event being held in Sri Lanka is due to Managing Director Abans, Tito Pestonjee, who successfully convinced the organising committee that Sri Lanka was a suitable and peaceful venue for such a conference.

Products highlighted at the presentation included the LG Low Watt Inverter Air Conditioner, which saves 60 percent electricity. The efficient and innovative functions of the LG Steam Tromm Washing Machine were also explained.

As steam required less energy to produce, it was cost effective and energy saving.

It also saved water, time and energy in ironing as the steam wash minimised wrinkles and stubborn creases.

Colombo Engineering Enterprises won the Gold Award for the fifth consecutive year at the NCE awards ceremony held at the Colombo Hilton recently Kiran Atapattu receives the award from Consultant/Director, Union Bank Anil Amarasuriya and Executive Director, NCE, Rasa Weerasingam


EPSON Photography Contest 2010
 

The EPSON All Island Photography Contest 2010 organised for the first time by DEBUG Computer Peripherals, authorised distributor for EPSON in Sri Lanka was held at the National Art Gallery Colombo 7 recently. “In keeping with our commitment to help the local photography industry including schoolchildren, we decided to have this competition”, said a company spokesperson.

Seminar on free trade agreements

A seminar on free trade agreements will be held on October 18, from 2.00 pm to 5.00 pm at the ground floor auditorium of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce. It will cover the Indo-Sri Lanka Free Trade Agreement, Asia-Pacific Trade Agreement, South Asia Free Trade Agreement (SAFTA), South Asia Pacific Trade Agreement (SAPTA), GSTP/GSP and the CEPA - (Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement). The keynote speaker at the seminar is Director General of the Department of Commerce, Gomi Senadhera.

The Sri Lanka Institute of Directors (SLID) will conduct a series of programs titled “Contemporary Views on Corporate Stewardship and Boardroom Governance” at the Ivy Room of the Cinnamon Grand Colombo.

The first in the series themed “A Vibrant Board of Directors” on October 21 will have the Group Finance Director of John Keells Holdings PLC Ronnie Peiris lead a panel comprising Group Finance Director Brandix Trevine Jayasekera, Non Executive Director MAS Investments Sharmini Ratwatte, Group Chief Corporate Officer Dialog Axiata PLC Kavan Ratnayake, and, Lawyer / Non Executive Director CIC PLC Harsha Amarasekera.

Country Manager E.I. du Pont de Nemours and Company, Mahinda Halangoda said that the company will have a fully fledged office in Sri Lanka within the next few months. He said that post conflict business growth has been over 100 percent which made the principals to open an office here. He said that this year alone the company had Rs. 10 m worth of business.

Managing Director BD India Manoj Gopalakrishna said that they are looking at the possibility of having an office in Sri Lanka. He said that the company is interested to move into the area of health.

Marketing Manager, Indian sub continent Mars International India Pvt Ltd, Sherwyn Xavier said that till last year the chocolate business was large in Sri Lanka. But now, the pet food business has overtaken, as import duty on pet food is lower than for chocolates. He said that chocolates can be made more affordable if duties are reduced.

He said that the company may open an office in Sri Lanka but there were no such plans to do so. We are happy with our agent in Sri Lanka.
