Projects to boost economy in Batticaloa

The Government has focused attention on improving the economic standards of the people in the Batticaloa District while achieving self-sufficiency and sustainable development in the District simultaneously.

To achieve this goal the Government has implemented many development projects in Batticaloa district. According to Batticaloa GA Sundharam Arumainayagam several development projects have been implemented in the Batticaloa District at a cost of Rs. 16,634 million.

Accordingly, foreign financial institutions have funded Rs. 15,319 million.

Certain ministries have granted Rs. 750 million for this project, with the Gama Neguma program granting Rs. 243 million and Rs. 25 million and Rs. 307 million contributed by the Parliamentarians of the District and the Eastern Provincial Council.

Accordingly 2,857 development projects have been implemented in the District and 70 percent of the entire project has been completed, according to the Batticaloa District Secretariat sources.
