Airwoman Dulakshi sets new SL record

W.P.E.K. Dulakshi established a new Sri Lanka record in women's 3,000m steeple chase at the National Women's Athletic Championsips begun at the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Sports Complex in Diyagama, Himagama yesterday.

Competing in the women's 3,000m staple chase final representing Sri Lanka Air Force Sports Club, Dulakshi clocked 10 minutes and 49.15 seconds to set a new Sri Lanka record, erasing her own previous mark of 11:00.30 sec. established at the same venue two months ago at the 88th Sri Lanka National Championships.

The 19-year-old lass from Tissamaharama has shown a tremendous form since coming to the limelight as a young emerging athlete. She won the silver medal of her pet event at the 14th Asian Junior Championships in Hanoi, Vietnam earlier this year with a timing of 11:30.00 sec.

The two-day meet, conducted by the Athletic Association of Sri Lanka, will be continued at the same venue today.
