Bogus complaint of sexual harassment

A woman who complained of sexual harassment against a bus conductor while travelling in a bus at Padikaramaduwa in Galenbindunuwewa last week was found to be a false complaint to implicate the bus conductor, police sources told the Sunday Observer.

A 21-year-old woman passenger from Padikaramaduwa lodged a complaint at the Galenbindunuwewa police station against the bus conductor stating that she was sexually molested by the conductor who thereafter robbed her gold chain worth Rs 38,000 and Rs 5,000. The incident occurred on October 20 in Padikaramaduwa around 7.30 pm.

Meanwhile a brother of the woman who witnessed the incident in the bus had assaulted the conductor who sustained severe injuries. Following the assault the conductor was admitted to the Anuradhapura hospital. Police who recorded the statements of other passengers found the complaint to be false. Police said that action would be taken against the woman for making a false complaint against the bus conductor.

OIC Galenbindunuwewa Chief Inspector Chanaka Silva is conducting further investigations.
