Amritha beat Nilushi to emerge Girls U-18 singles champion

Amritha Muttiah registered a smashing straight sets win over Nilushi Fernando 6/1, 6/1 in the final to emerge girls under-18 singles champion at the Colombo Tennis Championships continued at the National Tennis Centre courts, Greenpath in Colombo yesterday.

Muttiah was in fine form and took no time in completely overcoming her opponent without a contest. Fernando failed to match the challenge thrown by Muttiah and surrendered meekly, scoring only a point each in the two sets she lost.

Ashan Dep qualified to play Yasitha de Silva in the final of the boys under-18 singles event, winning their respective semi finals in straight sets. Dep thrashed Nishangan Nadarajah 6/4, 6/4 while De Silva had a similar straight sets win over Shabir Husair 6/3, 6/3.

It was an easy contest for Amresh Jayawickrema and M. A. Shakir in the boys under-18 doubles final. The duo comfortably overcame Nishangan Nadarajah amd Sharmal Dissanayake 6/3, 6/3 in the final.

D. Abeygunawardena will take on E. Samarasinghe in the boys under-14 singles final. They won their respective semi final matches played last evening. Abeygunawardena survived some anxious moments in the first set before overcoming C. Fernando 7/5, 6/2 while Samarasinghe beat Avishka Perera 6/3, 6/2.

Girls Under 12 Singles Semi Final: Nethmi Waduge beat Thewuni Devaraja 6/4, 6/2; N. Waduge beat Rukshana Abdeen 6/0, 6/0.

Girls Under 12 Singles Quarter Final: Rikshana Abdeen beat Amali Wijerathna 6/0, 6/0.

Girls Under 14 Singles Semi Final: Hasindhi Lokuge beat Fathoum Issadeen 4/6, 6/3, 6/1; Thisuri Molligoda beat Thilina Atapattu 6/2, 6/3.

Boys Under 14 Singles Semi Final: D. Abeygunawardena beat C. Fernando 7/5, 6/2; E. Samarasinghe beat Avishka Perera 6/3, 6/2.
