Agriculture to be popularised among students

A project to create a positive attitude among schoolchildren in Agriculture was launched by the Agriculture Ministry recently. The Ministry hopes to popularise agriculture among students and ensure their active participation to increase productivity, said Agriculture Minister Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena.

In the first phase of the project agricultural equipment was donated to 263 schools in the Moneragala district last week. All principals and agriculture teachers of 263 schools participated in a special meeting at the Moneragala community hall last week.

The carbonic fertiliser popularisation project of the Agriculture Ministry organised the event. Project Director Dr. J.D.H. Wijewardena said that the principals and agriculture teachers were apprised of the new trends in local agriculture and the importance of the carbonic fertiliser for agriculture.
