Mahes Rodrigo played for Ceylon
CRICKET: A small error had crept into our story about the Ceylon team
playing against Don Bradman's team in 1948 that appeared on page 30 of
the Sunday Observer of October 24.
That well-known cricketer of yesteryear Mahes Rodrigo played for the
Ceylon team and not Bertie Wijesinha. Australia made 184 for 8 wickets
declared and Ceylon had made 46 for 2 wickets when rain put a stop to
the match.
According to well informed sources, the wicket that was laid out for
the match on that occasion was only 20 yards in length.
Bradman was quick to spot the error and he commented that it was easy
to collect the singles.
