Demand for vehicle accessories up

Damitha Eleperuma

“Life on a vehicle is becoming more comfortable, safe and secure with the technology on accessories evolving fast” said Chairman/Managing Director, Advance Car Audio, Damitha Eleperuma.

He said that there is a tremendous demand for new devices and the market is rapidly expanding. The quest for high-tech among vehicle users is growing and there is room for more sophisticated units in vehicles.

Eleperuma said the reduction in vehicle import duty is a shot in the arm for the industry which is booming with the demand for new vehicles.

“The vehicle market was stagnant for several years due to the high duty structure which had kept many away from owning a vehicle”, he said.

Sri Lanka’s duty on vehicles was one of the highest in the world and it had a major drawback on the industry and adding revenue to the coffers of the country.

Accessories installed in a vehicle

“The demand for accessories has grown following the expansion in the vehicle market of all categories. The upward trend in the unit installation market will continue with the import of vehicles to the country,” Eleperuma said.

The young techno savvy entrepreneur Damitha Eleperuma, ventured into the car unit installation market with the guidance of his father who was a well-known car service provider in Colombo.

Having a desire to learn the art from school-days Damitha grabbed every opportunity to master the trade and excel in the family business.

Launching his business in the mid 1990s with three employees Damitha has expanded his trade and has over 30 employees in his company in Dehiwela.

“I have learnt the trade through the hard way and I encourage youngsters to venture into the industry which is a lucrative business and personally satisfying,” he said.

He said that he treats all his customers alike and their satisfaction is his greatest concern.

Car audio multimedia and modified sound systems, security systems, reverse cameras, HID xenon lights, projector and fog lights, mobile refrigerators, alloy wheels are products of the company.
