The centrepiece and best known of the works to be performed, is the Double Violin Concerto of Johann Sebastian. It is one of the most beautiful baroque concerti ever written. Its interweaving violin parts are performed by two of the CMSC’s front desk players – Satish Casie Chetty and Sogo Kanamori. The great composer’s 209th Cantata “He does not know what sorrow is”, in five movements, features the Guildhall-trained soprano Preshanthi Navaratnam. This Secular cantata was written possibly, as a farewell to a young marine officer by the name of Johann Matthias Gesner. It is aimed to intrigue, delight and enrapture in equal measure.
