Make Deputy Minister Mervin a Minister, prelate tells President
President Mahinda Rajapaksa, during his visit to Anuradhapura
yesterday to pay homage to the Sri Maha Bodhi and Atamasthana following
his swearing-in for the second term, also visited a number of Buddhist
temples in the area, where he received the blessings of the chief
prelates and other members of the Maha Sangha.
During a discussion the President had with the Chief Incumbent of the
Lankarama Viharaya in Anuradhapura, Ven. Relapanawe Dhammajothi Thera,
the Ven. Thera requested the President to grant a ministerial portfolio
to Highways Deputy Minister Dr. Mervin Silva in the forthcoming Cabinet
reshuffle, citing the Deputy Minister’s services for the uplift of
Buddha Sasana in the country.
