WBS to benefit migrant workers in Saudi
by Ananda KANNANGARA
Over 1.5 million Sri Lankan migrant workers employed in the Gulf
Region and in non Gulf Region countries will benefit with the new
high-tech Web Based Solution (WBS) in Saudi Arabia next month.
The Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) in collaboration
with the Saudi Arabian Government will install the WBS in Saudi Arabia
where over 500,000 Sri Lankan migrant workers are currently employed.
Chairman, SLBFE, Kingsley Ranawaka told the Sunday Observer that the
Web based Solution would link local and foreign recruitment agents, the
embassies and the Bureau.
He said that the job order placement, endorsement of job orders from
embassies and updating details at the SLBFE would be done in future
through the Web Based Solution.
"The objective of the new project is to improve efficiency and
effectiveness of the entire foreign employment process."
Ranawaka said that the details of workers, such as educational
qualifications, skills, personal details including their date of birth,
the details of their sponsors, salary agreements, working conditions and
employment details are included in the WBS.
The SLBFE will soon link with the free Government information hotline
1919 to provide information to the public regarding all registered
employment agencies countrywide to prevent malpractices.
