Tharanga steers Rahula College to an innings and 147 runs win

CRICKET: A fine allround performance by Y. Tharanga helped Rahula College, Matara to beat Taxila Central College, Horana by an innings and 147 runs in their under 19 inter-school division two cricket tournament match played at the Uyanwatte Stadium, Matara. Tharanga made 113 not out in the Rahula College first innings total of 304 for 5 wickets declared in 62.5 overs. Put into bat, Taxila Cental were bundled out for 72 in their first innings with Tharanga taking 3 for 10, P.M. Ekanayake 2 for 2, V. Kottawasingha 2 for 6 and R. Uyanhewa 2 for 7.

Rahula College, besides Tharanga's 113 not out, had Harsha Rajapakse (98) and this pair put on 174 runs for the fifth wicket to have a tight hold on the match.

Taxila Central batting a second time were all out for 85 runs, with Tharanga taking 3 for 6, Uyanhewa taking 3 for 18 and Ekanayake 2 for 17.
