No decision at Lake View

Dharmaraja College, Kandy held S. Thomas College Mount Lavinia to a
no decision in their schools under-19 cricket tournament match concluded
at the Lake View grounds, Kandy yesterday. There were several
interruptions due to rain on both days which curtailed play. Following
heavy overnight rain, the match got underway only at 1.00 p.m. on the
first day and the Thomians made 187 for 6.
On the second day too there were interruptions due to rain and the
match was finally called off at 4.00 p.m.
The Thomians scored 243 all out with Nuwan Kavinda top scoring with
an elegant 70. He was associated in a third wicket stand of 81 with
Sachin Peiris who scored 33. This partnership boosted the Thomian total
after the Rajan spinners had made the initial breakthrough V.T.
Dharmasena (43) and Umesh Fernando (46) too balled well.
Two spinners drafted from the under-15 team by the Rajans had the
Thomians in a spin. Deneth Lanka 5 for 112 and Arvinda Withanaarachchi 4
for 83 though a little expensive shared the wickets.
Rajans made 119 for 5 before rain stopped shortly after tea. Sadun
Weerakkody scored 34. Chandi Pathirana took 3 for 25.
S. Thomas 243 all out in 67 overs (Nuwan Karunaratne 70, Umesh
Fernando 46, Sachin Peiris 33, V.T. Dharmasena 43, Arvinda
Withanaarachchi 4 for 83, Deneth Lanka 5 for 112).
Dharmaraja 119 for 5 wickets in 36 overs (Sadun Weerakkody 34, Lahiru
Herath 26, Viraj Karaputugala 21, Chaminda Pathirana 3 for 25).
