Nena Guna Weduma : Sisu Diriya:
A resounding success in North
Nena Guna Weduma : Sisu Diriya was held in Kilinochchi recently to
mark President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s swearing-in, which heralded a new era
to the youth who suffered immensely at the hands of LTTE terrorism.
Each year in the last week of November the LTTE’s so-called,
Mahaveerar Week’ partended horror to the youth. It was a trail of
suspense, and fear for the reluctant youth.
Nena Guna Weduma opened new vistas to students, particularly school
prefects from about 500 schools in the area. It was a training camp
which blazed a trail of new activities such as creating a new culture in
their schools, adding a new dimension to the promising youth and
increasing efficiency and productivity apart from promoting spiritual
and mutual development.
Lectures, multiple activities such as sports, group discussions, yoga
practices and meditation, documentary films and new productivity
techniques, became a novel experiment to the participants.
The success of the event was due to the continued efforts on the part
of Security Forces, Police, Northern Governor’s office and Kilinochchi
District Secretary.
That the youth defied torrential rains in their enthusiasm to express
their solidarity, was commendable.
The sports meet at the Kilinochchi Hindu College grounds which
reasserted the ethnic and religious solidarity added lustre to the grand
finale.
The Presidential Secretariat, presidential Social Development Office
and Nena Guns Weduma, the social activists were fully committed to make
the event a reality.
Presidential Social Development Director Nandana Wijesinghe,
Kilinochchi District Secretary, Rupawathie Ketheeswaran, Productivity
Consultant Lal Fonseka, Attitudes Development Trainers, Mohan
Palliyaguru, Sabir M. Hassim and Neil Salpottawala and local
administrators, Directors of education and School Principals
participated.
