Chairman Harcourts (PVT) Ltd Ahamed Rheyes said that they will open
the hospital in September next year. Planned as a 100 bed multi facility
hospital, it will serve the people of the Dehiwala area, upto Panadura
and beyond who have no access to a modern specialty hospital in the
private sector. Harcourts decided to step in to fill this void and
provide advanced medical care to patients from these areas.
The BOI approved project with an investment of Rs 300 m will have
technical cooperation from Iran. Rheyes said that they have invested Rs
150 m on the buildings while the balance investment is for the
equipment.
The Harcourts Hospital will have all amenities required in a modern
healthcare facility. Immediate facilities to be made available will be
obstetrics gynaecology, paediatrics, general medicine and general
surgery.
The second phase will have provisions for orthopaedics /
rheumatology, cardiology and other specialties. Rheyes said that the
Harcourts Hospital will be family-centered with more emphasis on female
and paediatric care.
Dehiwala has remained the nerve centre of Harcourts operations
inspite of the company branching out to other locations in Colombo,
Kandy and Anuradhapura. He said patients in Dehiwala and from other
areas in Colombo south need an interim care centre with top-class
facilities. The aim of the Harcourts Hospital will be to fulfil this
need.
