Opportunity for public to view power generation process

Schoolchildren and the public will get a rare opportunity to study the electricity distribution process of the three major hydro power projects, Victoria, Wimalasurendra and Samanalawewa and the Kelanitissa thermal power plant during the forthcoming school vacation. The program will commence on December 13.

The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) will launch the program for the first time in Sri Lanka on a directive of Power and Energy Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka, to educate the masses on the supply of electricity.

A team of CEB officials will be deployed at each power station to educate students on the power generating process.

He said schoolchildren and others will also be educated on the use of home electrical appliances including refrigerators, electric irons and water heaters in a more efficient manner to save energy.

A senior CEB spokesman requested schoolchildren to obtain permission from the CEB with the approval of school heads prior to their visits.

More details in this regard could be obtained from General Manager, CEB .
