Awareness program to boost tourism

Sri Lanka Tourism will launch an islandwide monthly program to promote tourism. Each month an event on a particular theme will be held to raise awareness among the tourist on the indigenous cultural, social, religious and heritage of Sri Lanka, said Chairman Sri Lanka Tourism Dr. Nalaka Godahewa.

Sri Lanka Tourism has set a target of 750,000 tourist arrivals in 2011.

The new programme will be effective from January 2011. Under the new program beaches, sports and adventure, people and their culture, religious, traditional weddings' honeymoons, body and mind health, nature, heritage, eco-Tourism Culinary science, shopping and entertainment are prominent themes to be introduced into the monthly program.

The chairman said the infrastructure facilities and services such as domestic sea and air travels should be updated as a priority.

The tourist arrivals will significantly increase as a result of the peaceful situation in the country the chairman said.
