Police probe death of spinster

Police have launched an investigation into the death of 57-year-old woman whose body was found inside her home with burn injuries last week, Police Media Spokesman SP, Prishantha Jayakody told the Sunday Observer.

The deceased has been identified as Dorothy Carson a spinster at No 10, 4th lane at Soysakelle Road, Nawalapitiya. A domestic aide who turned at her place last week complained to the police that there was no response to her knocks on the doors and windows.

With a Court order police broke into her home and found her body lying near a barrel of water in the kitchen. Rupees 47,000 in cash was also found in her room. "Nobody has broken into her house and we are not suspecting foul play.

We are investigating whether it was a case of suicide." police said.

Meanwhile the autopsy will be held soon to determine the cause of death. OIC Nawalapitiya Inspector Udaya Wickremasekera is investigating into the death.
