President to open Scout Jamboree
The eighth National Scout Jamboree, marking the centenary
celebrations of the Sri Lanka Scout Association which falls in 2012,
will be inaugurated in Angunakolapelessa by the Chief Scout of Sri
Lanka, President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
Eleven thousand Scouts will participate in the jamboree. "The Scout
Law and Promise are fundamental rules for the jamboree.
It is important to balance proper care and supervision of young
people with respect to their privacy, giving them the chance to learn by
doing", said Assistant Chief Commissioner for International Affairs of
the Sri Lanka Scout Association and Chief Organising Commissioner of the
Eighth National Jamboree, Shiraz Salih.
He said, "Our mission is to contribute to the education of young
people, through the value system based on the Scout Promise and Law, to
help build a better world where people are self-fulfilled as individuals
and play a constructive role in society."
The jamboree will coincide with the Ninth National Cubboree for Cub
Scouts which would also start at Hungama Vidyalaya tomorrow.
A horse riding training program, youth program, Scout activities,
off-site excursions, sub-camp display, Scout talent show, arena display
and camp fires have been organised during the Jamboree.
Team building activities would also be held for Guides and Cubs.
