Electricity pirates nabbed

The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) officials with the assistance of the police officers in Batticaloa District recently apprehended 115 electricity pirates in the District. A flying Squad from CEB Head Quarters in Colombo conducted special raids in various parts of the District and succeeded in arresting these electricity pirates.

The gadgets used to tap illegal electricity were also confiscated by the electricity officials during the raids.

The raids were conducted in Eravur, Valachchenai, Wavunativu, and Kaluwanchikkudi areas, according to an official of the CEB, Batticaloa. 46 persons were arrested last Monday for tapping electricity illegally, 41 persons on Tuesday and 28 persons were arrested on Wednesday.(MN)
