A new degree program on disciplines such as hospitality, Tourism and
event management would be introduced next year by the Uva-Wellassa
University of Sri Lanka.
The University Grants Commission (UGC) has offered 81 degree courses
to those who have obtained satisfactory results at GCE Advanced Level
examination and seek admission to universities next year.
UGC Chairman Professor Gamini Samaranayake said GCE Advanced Level -
qualified students should send in their university entrance applications
before January 14, 2011.
Application forms are available at the UGC Secretariat and its
distributing agents in the main cities, he said.
He said the applications are required to sit for an aptitude test for
27 out of the 81 study courses which include Information Technology,
Design -Architecture, Dancing, Music, Computing and Information Systems,
Export Agriculture, Entrepreneurship and Management, Hospitality,
Tourism and Event Management.
A total of 142,382 out of the 230,238 students who sat for the GCE AL
examination last August have qualified for admission to universities, of
these 4,834 students have obtained A passes for all three subjects. The
14 State Universities could accommodate less than 25,000 students even
with the maximum facilities available in them at present. |
