Christmas celebrations with carols were held at Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne’s official residence ‘Visumpaya’ last week. Premier Jayaratne is seen here in conversation with some of the carol singers at the event.


A workshop on parliamentary practice and procedures was conducted for those elected to the youth parliament recently. At the conclusion of the workshop, a fireworks display symbolic of multi-ethnic cultural affinity was held at the National Youth Council, Maharagama. Here a presentation by the aadiwasis. Present at the occasion were Youth Affairs and Skills Development Minister Dullas Alahapperuma and National Youth Services Council Chairman, Lalith Pium Perera.

The Ambassador for the Netherlands in Sri Lanka Leoni Cuelenaere was the winner of the Women’s Over 45 years event of the Hilton Colombo Residence and Mobitel Fun Run 2010 held recently. Here she displays the cheque she won, which was, in turn donated to the Cancer Hospital, Maharagama. General Manager, Thai Airways, Weerawat Swasdisutra, CEO, Sri Lanka Telecom - Mobitel, Suren J. ANCL staffer's mother passes away
 

The death occurred of Mrs. Leena de Mel, mother of Nandana Peiris, former Senior Assistant Accountant of Lake House Accounts Department and K.P.S. Peiris, Asst. Production Manager of Lake House.

The funeral will take place today at 4 p.m. at the Rawatawatte cemetery.


B'desh offers four schols

The Bangladeshi government has offered 04 scholarships to Sri Lanka on medicine and dental surgery. Applicants who have passed GCE (O/L) examination in 2007 and Advanced Level in 2010 will be shortlisted for an interview.Applications for the scholarships will be closed on December 31.


Applications invited at SLTHMI - Anuradhapura

Applications for admission to Sri Lanka Tourist & Hotel Management Institute(SLTHMI), Anuradhapura for 2011 will be accepted till end of December 2010. Applications are obtainable from Sri Lanka Tourist & Hotel Management Institute, Colombo or its regional office at Anuradhapura.

Applicants who have passed/failed GCE (Advanced Level) examination are eligible to apply for the courses. Contact 025-2223315


Peradeniya Gardens reduces rates for elderly

The Royal Botanical Gardens in Peradeniya has reduced its ticket prices for senior citizens to ten rupees, said Director General of the Department of Botanical Gardens Dr. Cyril Wijesundara.
