Located in a busy area of the main town at a location which has ample parking space and offers its shoppers an on-site kids play area and a Coffee Shop offering gourmet coffee and fresh bakery products.

CEO Arpico (Richard Pieris Distributors Ltd) Andrew Dalby, said. "This is an exciting time to be in business. Peace in Sri Lanka has generated a sense of optimism in the country which in turn has increased consumer confidence, therefore it is the right time for Arpico to increase its footprint in the island and we have chosen Wattala to launch our most eco-friendly store that will redefine their shopping experience. He said that "As responsible citizens and businesses, we believe that it is our duty and obligation to work towards safeguarding the environment.

We are glad to have this opportunity to lead the charge on reducing the use of plastics that contribute greatly to the pollution of the environment, as an incentive to shoppers contributing towards the green initiative Arpico Supercentre will be rewarding shoppers who bring their own bags with privilege green points that can be redeemed against future purchases".

Arpico Supercentre, Wattala, incorporates a number of environmentally responsible features including prismatic lighting combined with enhanced use of natural daylight using translucent cladding and sun pipes in the roof. Prismatic lighting minimizes the use of grid electricity thereby bringing down the cost of electricity drastically.

The store also employs a Rain Water Harvesting System where rain water is collected in a catchment area on the roof, then purified and conveyed to water the lawn and garden and for toilet flush.

This will reduce the load on the national water supply system.

The sewage system is designed in a fashion that waste is recycled as fertilizer and the water treated and released.

Thus the Supercentre waste disposal will be substantially reduced by source-separation of recyclable and compostable materials while reducing pressure for incineration or landfill.
