Corruption in fertiliser distribution:

Squad to nab suspects

A special flying squad would be set up to nab the culprits who are mishandling the fertiliser distribution to the farmers. Fertiliser is distributed to farmers on a subsidised basis by the Government, Agrarian Services and Wildlife Minister S.M. Chandrasena said.

Minister Chandrasena warned that stringent action would be taken against people who engaging in such malpractices.

The special squad is expected to commence operations this month in agricultural districts where massive corruption in the distribution process has been reported. The squad would comprise investigative officials attached to the Agrarian Services Ministry, he said. Corruption is taking place on a massive scale in the distribution process of fertiliser to the farmers. Minister Chandrasena warned that the culprits would not be pardoned and legal action would be taken against them.
