'Laksalusala' which reopened recently under a new management has been
transformed into a popular sales store for locally made cloths, said
State Resources and Enterprise Development Deputy Minister Sarath
Gunaratna.
Laksalusala earned over Rs. 20 million within 20 days during the
festive season. Handmade garments, specially made for Laksalusala such
as sarees, trouser and shirt material were in big demand he said.
Laksalusala employees were given a Rs. 5,000 bonus and also an
incentive payment of Rs. 5,000 for the first time, the Deputy Minister
said.
Seven Laksalusala branches in Nugegoda Ratnapura Ampara Kurunegala
Badulla and Angunkolapallassa and the Jawatta Vilasitha Nivasa at
Colombo have become popular due to its reasonable prices and high
quality local material, he said. Popular teledrama actor Chandima
Nanayakkara and actress Umayanga Wickramasingha work as honourary envoys
of Laksalusala under the new management.
