Rural Development Ministry has made arrangements to distribute hybrid
coconut saplings among rural communities in Kegalle district beginning
from March 2011. The plan is to distribute one million coconut saplings
through the district agriculture committees of the respective areas.
Coconut fertilizer too, would be provided to interested cultivators
of these hybrid coconut seedlings at a subsidised rate.
Those intended cultivators both minor and major are kindly requested
to make their applications to coconut development board office in
Kegalle district indicating the number of coconut seedlings required by
them for planting.
The distribution of fertilizer depends on the extent of the area to
be brought under cultivation.
The home-garden cultivators are also entitled to receive these hybrid
coconut seedlings the Sunday Observer learnt. This program is to be
extended to other districts too by the coconut growing authority.
