Indonesian Ambassador, Djafar Husen paid a courtesy call on Justice Minister Rahuff Hakeem at his residence at Kollupitiya recently. He pledged his government’s assistance to the Minister during the discussions.

Upali Peiris' mother passes away

Roslin Perera, relict of late Bastian Peiris of 52, "Sripathi", Wasantharama Road, Molligoda, Wadduwa passed away yesterday.

She was the mother of Upali Peiris, Head of the Pre-Press (Operations), Production Department of the Associate Newspapers of Ceylon Ltd (Lake House). The funeral will take place tomorrow, at 5.00 p.m. at the Waskaduwa Crematorium, Wadduwa.


Foreign student retrieves lost laptop

A student of the university of Sydney who came to Sri Lanka for the second semester of her course at the University of Colombo found her laptop missing at the Katunayake Airport.The student, Miss Nimra related her plight to a Lake House correspondent who spared no pains to retrieve the laptop.

The laptop in question had been handed over to the KIA security officer.


Kandy lake polluted

The Kandy lake is polluted discarded clothes empty water bottles and slippers collect at the edges of the Lake.Feeding fish with pieces of bread and gram also adds to the pollution.

An aquatic specialist who visited the Dalada Maligawa said that the fish are confined to a limited area in the tank.

Roaring motor boats also scare the fish.

Action should be taken to keep the Lake clean.


SOS for O+ kidney

Thirty six-year-old Manas Mohodeen, an employee of "Waters Edge", is in the final stage of kidney failure. The Consultant Nephrologist of the National Hospital of Sri Lanka, Dr. A. L. M. Nazar has recommended urgent kidney transplant and his blood group is "O" Positive. He needs a kidney from a person who share the same blood type.

SLILA General Meeting on Jan 22

The Sri Lanka Institute of Landscape Architects (SLILA) has organised the Second Continuing Professional Development (CPD2) event for members of the Institute on Saturday January 22 at 9.20 a.m. at the auditorium of the Urban Development Authority. The lectures will be A. A. L. Jagath Gunawardena and Chartered Landscape Architect, Shereen Amendra with the registration at 9.00 a.m.

A general meeting of the Institute will follow at 11.30 a.m.


Blood - donation on Jan. 9

A blood-donation campaign organised by the Kaudana SANASA Youth Centre for the 12th consecutive year, will be held on January 9 at Kaudana Sudharma Mutual Benefit Association Hall.

Donors will be issued with an insurance certificate, the organisers said.


Old Servatians get-together

The Old Boys' Association of St.Servatius College, Matara will hold their get-together and fellowship dinner on Saturday, January 15 at the Pearl Cliff Hotel, Matara from 6.30 p.m.

An old boy and legendary cricketer Sanath Jayasuriya MP for Matara district will be the chief guest.


SLEAWA remembers 28 women martyrs

The Sri Lanka Ex-Army Women's Association (SLEAWA) will celebrate its 15th anniversary on January 15 at 2.00 p.m. at Mahanama College auditorium Colombo 03.

The drama "Duwe Numbai" will be staged at this event. Twenty eight women soldiers who died in action, will also be remembered, along with other war heroes.
