Mahinda win by 10 runs

Mahinda College past cricketers registered a victory in the twelfth Colonel Henry Steele Olcott Memorial Cricket tournament by defeating Dharmasoka by 10 runs in a keenly contested game.

The first match of the tournament was Mahinda vs Dharmasoka in which Mahinda batted first winning the toss and Mahinda was 99 for 7 wickets in their 12 overs.

Duminda Wickramasingha of Mahinda College displayed excellent batting scoring 44 before retiring.

Chasing a target of 99 Dharmasoka could manage 90 for 8 at the end of 12 overs.

In the second match Pannipitiya Dharmapala was 111 for 5 in their 12 overs who selected to bat after winning the toss. In the Dharmapala innings the top batting performance was by Susila Gunawardane who scored 34 hitting the first ball over the rope in the tournament.

At the time of this going to press Nalanda was 11 for one wicket in their second over in reply to Dharmapala's total of 111.

Mahinda: 99/7 (Dilipa Wickramsinghe 14, Duminda Wickramasinghe 44 (Ret), Sujith Sirimanne 18, Lal Ranasinghe 2/9, T. Wasantha 2/19, H. Premasiri 1/16, Sarath Ginige 1/29).

Dharmasoka: 90/8 (H. Premasiri 13, T.D.L. Lal 14, Saman Mahesh 18 n/o, Gayan Lanka 2/15, Dilipa Wickramasingha 1/14, Saman Fonseka 2/11).

Dharmapala: (5/111 - Ravindra Wimalasiri 10, Senaka Angulugaha 16, Susila Gunawardane 34, Nihal Soyza 29 n/o, Mahendra Amarasingha 2/13, Gihan Wimalasooriya 1/23, P. Abeygunasinha 1/22, Sunil Perera 1/16).

Nalanda: 11/1.

The tournament will continue today (9) and tomorrow (Monday 10).
