National Green Jobs Conference
The National Green Jobs Conference organised by the ILO in
collaboration with the Ministries of Labour and Labour Relations and
Productivity Promotion, with financial support from the Australian
Government, under the ILO-Australia Partnership Program 2010 - 2015 will
be held tomorrow 24 in Colombo. The ILO’s Green Jobs initiative supports
a concerted effort by governments, employers, and trade unions to
promote environmentally sustainable jobs and development in a
climate-challenged world, and seeks to facilitate a “just transition”
that reflects the environmental, economic and social pillars of
sustainable development.
The conference will be a forum to discuss emerging trends, debate on
policy options, and share inspiring cases from Sri Lanka and South Asia.
Key issues on the agenda will include the employment and labour
market implications of environment - related measures, potential for
green jobs promotion in the Sri Lankan policy framework, the transition
to more sustainable economies and societies, and sectoral discussions
related to renewable energy, eco-tourism, waste management and green
manufacturing.
Speakers and participants have been drawn from a wide range of
government departments and institutions, employers’ and workers’
organisations, international agencies, private sector leaders, NGOs, and
research institutes, working on this critical global agenda.
