ICASL introduces high-end ICT products

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (ICASL) introduced three high-end ICT products alongside a Diploma in Computer Based Accounting at the ICASL e-Launch 2011 held at the ICASL Auditorium recently. The Information and Communication Technology Agency (ICTA) was the strategic partner.

The launch saw the unveiling of the Multimedia Learning Guides (MMLG), the Online Course Management System (OCMS) and the Library System, two of which won Special Merit Awards at the e-Swabhimani 2010 Award Ceremony.

The Professional Diploma in Computer Based Accounting,is conducted by the IT Training Division of ICASL in collaboration with the Faculty of Management of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura. The diploma targets students who are keen to pursue a career in accounting with the aid of software tools.

President ICASL Sujeewa Mudalige said "As the national body of accountants, a great deal of responsibility is placed on us in giving the impetus to the accountancy profession and our members, who are the standard bearers of the profession in meeting challenges.

The Institute formed an ICT committee as a sub committee to the council almost two decades ago. We have taken many initiatives towards ensuring that ICASL students and members are ICT savvy and are geared to face challenges of the future, where ICT will be a key enabler.

We have brought in considerable content of ICT to our syllabi, making practical hands on IT training compulsory.

The Institute acknowledges the assistance received from a number of national institutions who are entrusted with driving the e-Sri Lanka project such as ICTA, SLASCOM, SLIIT for giving the necessary direction and the World Bank for funding some of these projects."

The Information and Communication Technology Agency of Sri Lanka has been instrumental in the launch of some of these products apart from being the strategic partner of the event.

Diploma in Information Systems, Security, Control & Audit (DISSCA) is another computer based diploma conducted by ICASL jointly with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI). Successful candidates at the previous batch of DISSCA also received certificates at the event.

"ICASL uses IT extensively in its activities, not only to promote efficiency and effectiveness in its operations, but also as a tool and a medium to facilitate education and training.

ICASL is one of the most progressive educational institutes in terms of use and application of information technology; its members and students are well-skilled and equipped with technology tools to deliver professional services.

The products launched are significant, in that these are one of its kind in the country and will have wider application in the future" said Chairman ICT Committee ICASL Arjuna Herath.
