Buddhist Communication Circle Officials 2011

The Buddhist communication circle of All Ceylon Buddhist Congress held its Annual General Meeting last Thursday the 20th January 2011 at ACBC auditorium and elected the following office-bearers for the current year.

President: Douglas Siriwardene, Attorney-at-Law, Director General Tower Hall Foundation.

Secretary: Suramya Mapitiya, Assistant Director (Religious Program - Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation)

Advisors: Kalakeerthi Edwin Ariyadasa, Prof. Rohana Lakshman Piyadasa

Vice President: Sujatha Premaratne, Executive Director ECHO SMS Ltd.

In addition to the above key positions, a team of nine committee members were elected representing the following media organisations:Dayan Meneripitiya (TV Derana), Roshan Wickremasinghe (Sun FM), Jaliya Wijeyekoon (Sunday Observer), Panuka Rajapaksha (Lakbima - Daily), Deepika Madawala Arachchi (Lakbima - Sunday), S. Mampitiya Arachchige (Editor - Jeevithayata Dahampasala Magazine), Cyril Gunesekera (Editor - Siri Sadham Magazine), Jayantha Jayawickrema (Media Unit - Ministry of Irrigation), Chandrasena Ranaweera (Senior Journalist).

The welcome speech was delivered by out-going President, Kalakeerthi Edwin Ariyadasa who was unanimously elected as one of the Advisors for the current year by the membership. He stressed the point that this year has a special significance with Sambuddhathwa Jayanthi celebrations and also with the beginning of the second decade in 21st century.

The President of the ACBC Jagath Sumathipala addressing the gathering briefly outlined the work carried out during the past and assured his continued support to the new office-bearers who have a bigger responsibility with the Sambuddhathwa Jayanthi celebrations in the current year.

The newly elected President Douglas Siriwardene thanked the members for electing him as the President who has to play an anchor role and called upon everybody to work as a team to achieve the sublime goals of the organisation. Secretary, Suramya Mapitiya proposed the vote of thanks.
