TNA appeals for help

A humanitarian need of great proportions has arisen again due to floods in the North, North Central and Eastern Provinces of the country. Hardly had the effects of the rains and floods of last month receded, when the new wave of floods claimed the lives of hundreds of thousand of people.

Many areas in the North and the East have been inaccessible as well, resulting in the people facing starvation and moreover keeping themselves afloat, a media release from the General Secretary of the Ilankai Tamil Arasa Kadchi (TNA) Mavai S. Senathirajah MP said.

“We appeal to the Government to do all in its power to render urgent assistance to the people affected by the floods, which has been accentuated by the opening of the dams in many areas for greater safety. Food and other essential needs to be air-lifted or taken by boats to many places”.

“We also appeal to the international community, particularly India, to render whatever assistance possible and also ensure that all relief reach the people affected.
