Health officials alerted on spread of diseases

Health authorities have been alerted by the Health Minister Maithreepala Sirisena to ensure good hygienic condition among the flood victims.

On the directive of Health Minister Maithreepala Sirisena, steps have been taken to supply drugs to prevent infectious diseases, and to give high protein biscuits and other basic needs to expectant mothers and children.

Public Health Inspectors have been deployed to ensure clean, drinkable water by disinfecting water resources such as wells and ponds.

Meanwhile, Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, Vauniya, Ampara and Batticaloa have deployed special medical teams to attend to emergencies.

An ambulance service to North Central Province to transport patients who need urgent treatment is being manned from Colombo.
