Rs. 4,000m road development project in Buttala

A road development project has been launched at a cost of Rs. 4000
million in Buttala and the surrounding areas, parallel to the Deyata
Kirula Exhibition site, Highways Deputy Minister Nirmala Kothalawala
said.
The 130-kilometre stretch of road would be similar in standard to
roads in the Colombo city, the Deputy Minister said.
He said that as the Minister of Ports and Highways, President Mahinda
Rajapaksa had directed authorities to develop the roads in the
exhibition area of Buttala and also the Uva Wellassa region.Under the
Deyata Kirula special road development project, a 40-kilometre stretch
on the Udawalawa - Thanamalwila road was carpeted and road signs marked
at a cost of Rs. 800 million.
New bridges were constructed to replace the old bridges and
causeways, the Deputy Minister said.
The project was inspected and implemented by the Uva Province Road
Development Authority under the guidance of the Deputy Highways
Minister.
