Leave cancelled for Grama Niladharis

Matale District Secretariat has cancelled leaves of all Grama Niladharis in the district to engage in emergency relief work and to provide immediate information to District Secretariat in case a disaster taken place.

The unfavourable weather condition was the main reason for the cancellation of the leaves of Grama Niladharis, according to Matale District Secretary K.H.A. Meegasmulla said.

The 350 families numbering 1,450 displaced from their own places have been sheltered in three temporary welfare camps, Meegasmulla said. The Government has allocated funds to carry out relief works towards the affected people, Meegasmulla added.

Meanwhile as the Anuradhapura Keeriyakadawala tank in Galenbindunuwewa was washed away two hundred families have displaced from this village and temporarily they have been housed in a temple close to the village.

North Central Province Chief Minister Berty Premalal Dissanayake and Anuradhapura District Secretary K. Herath visited the area to inspect the situation.
