18th People's Bank Super Hockey Sevens concludes

Sri Lanka Air Force 'A' (Men's Championship), Sri Lanka Navy (Women's Championship), Pushpadana Girls College (Girls School's Championship) and Vijaya College, Matale (Boy's Schools Championship) stole the honours at the 18th People's Bank Super Hockey Sevens organised by Seetha Devi Balika Vidyalaya and sponsored by People's Bank and worked off at the Asgiriya Stadium in Kandy. This was one of the biggest hockey tournament to be staged in the hill capital and Central Province with over 600 stickers from 48 girls and boys schools and 26 men's wemen's clubs participating for honours.

Assistant General Manager People's Bank (Western Region) Boniface de Silva was the Chief Guest and he distributed the main awards.

Men's Club Championship:

Sri Lanka Air Force 'A' team early hiccups won the men's championship by defeating Sri Lanka Air Force 'B' by 3 goals to 01 in the finals after the losers had led 1 - 0 at lemons.

National players Dhammika Abeyratne, K. S. S. Perera and D. Dissanayake scored a goal each for SLAF 'A' for SLAF 'B' C. Kumara scored.

Women's Club

Championship:

Sri Lanka Navy women's team won the women's championship for the second year in running by defeating Seetha Devi Sports Club 2 - 1 on penalty strokes in a thriller. The scores stood level at one all at the end of the regulation time. In the penalty tie breaker the Navy girls edged out their opponents 2 - 1.

Girl's Schools Championship:

Pushpadana Girls College, Kandy continued their run of success by winning the championship for girls schools after defeating their home town rivals Seetha Devi Balika Vidyalaya 2 - 0 in the finals.

At half time Pushpadana stickers led 1- 0.

Lakmini Wijesundera and Jeewanthi Jayaratne sounded the boards for Pushpadana Girls College.

Boys Schools Championship:

Vijaya College, Matale won the championship for boys by defeating Nalanda College 3 - 0 in the finals. At half time the Vijayans led 1 - 0.

Scoring the goals for Vijaya were Amila Ratnasiri (1), Buddhika Naveen (1) and Sithum Sithara (1).

Most Outstanding Players:

Girls Schools: Lakmini Wijesundera (Pushpadana Girls School)

Boys Schools: Amila Ratnasiri (Vijaya College)

Men's Clubs: Dhammika Abeyratne (SLAP 'A')

Women's Clubs: Chathurika Vijesuriya (Sri Lanka Navy)
