New Off Road track opens next week in Kandy
by S. M. Jiffrey ABDEEN - Kandy Sports Corr.
A full day's event has been organised by the Kandy Off Road and
Adventure Club at its 4x4 championship which will be worked off at the
newly constructed off road track at Riverside Mahaweli, Pallekelle next
Saturday, February 12th at 9 a.m.
This Off Road Track at Pallekelle by the side of the Mahaweli ganga
has been designed by motor racing driver Rohan Dammapala who will be the
chief organiser of this competition.
The access to this new off road track is from the turn off at the Gam
Udawa clock tower at Pallekelle and pass the National Ayurvedic hospital
and the Open Prison Camp. The track is about one kilometre in length.
This is a dual track with a liberal dose of shish and mud uphill and
downhill, boulders and a flowing stream for the extremes. It has all the
ingredients to make an adventurous one. In addition to this there are
ten obstructions which the drivers will have to come to terms before
reaching the finish. A total of four events will be worked off which
will include events for ladies, standard four-wheel drive cars, the
trucks and the Extremes. This event is expected to go on till 7 p.m.
There will be also three All Terrain Vehicles (ATV) to follow the
competing vehicles. In addition there will also recovery vehicles as
spills are aplenty in championship such as this.
Already a number of ladies have entered to participate and around 40
male drivers will vie for honours. |
