Crash program for vegetable cultivation

Agriculture Minister Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena launched a crash programme for vegetable cultivation at Matale recently.

The program to be restricted to a few districts will be implemented with the participation of agrarian services and provincial agriculture departments and other institutions under the agriculture ministry. Kandy, Matale and Nuwara Eliya are the key districs identified to maximize the vegetable produce.

Meanwhile the mobile units of the agriculture departments will conduct awareness programmes to popularize vegetable cultivation in addition to supplying seeds and plants to farmers at concessionary prices. The Hadabima Authority too has launched a similar programs in the above districts.
